About Mrs. Bowen

Hello Everyone,

My name is Emily Leslie and I am thrilled to be one of the first grade teachers at GSCELC/SCOPE Primary. This will my second year teaching and my first year in a first grade classroom. I completed my student teaching experience in a first grade classroom where I let the knowledge, experiences, and ideas I aquired during college fuel my teaching. I loved my experience and I am looking forward to applying what I learned in the upcoming school year. During the 2011-2012 school year, I participated in the Teacher Leader Mentor/Coaching program, where I collaborated with an experienced teacher to implement effective literacy practices that promote high quality early childhood settings and increase child outcomes. For nine years, I have also been a dance instructor to children between the ages of four and tweleve, so I can assure you the passion I have for children extends beyond the classroom!

My philosophy is that all children are unique and capable of achieving great things in life and it is my job as a teacher to make sure that this potential is met. Teaching children is my passion and I will do what it takes to fulfill this responisbility with my students. I plan to provide the resources needed to support all learners, and to use a variety of materials to provide rich, meaningful experiences. I believe learning is maximized when the experiences are purposeful, interactive, engaging, and linked to real world applications.

Outside of the classroom, I enjoy scrapbooking; capturing memories is one of the most precious gifts. I love to bake, dance, go biking, and to spend as much time as I can with my two nephews, Benjamin and James. I am also engaged to be married in the summer of 2013... I cannot wait!

I am looking forward to another great year at GSCELC. There is no other place I would rather be.
