I Can Statements

What are I Can Statements? I Can Statements are statements made at the beginning of each week that state what the children will be able to master by the end of that week. Based on the assessments made throughout the week, I will be able to determine if a student has mastered the concept or is approaching mastery. If they are still struggling,  I will make instructional adjustments to meet the needs of that student to ensure they will understand.

Week of September 16th, 2013:

1. I can identify the roles of an author and illustrator.
2. I can sort objects based on their attributes.
3. When having a conversation, I can take turns.

Week of September 23rd, 2013:

1. When I think I am done, I can add more detail to my picture.
2. I can show numbers two different ways on my fingers.
3. I can recognize a rhyming word.

Week of September 30th, 2013:

1. I can make a color pattern.
2. I can identify the baseline, midline, and top line of the writing lines. 
3. I can read closely to find the most important part of a story.

Week of October 14th, 2013:
1. I can say a word and write down the sounds that I hear
2. I can tell you why something is living and why something is not living.
3. I can compare the different heights of objects.

Week of October 28th, 2013:
1. I can identify characters in a story.
2. I can write more than one page by making a book.
3. I can explain the meaning of zero.

Week of November 4th, 2013:
1. I can say a word and write down the first sound I hear.
2. I can answer "how many" questions.
3. I can tell you what the setting is of a story. 

Week of November 18th, 2013:
1. I can write about something that I know a lot about.
2. I can tell you the partners of a teen number.
3. I can make a text-to-self connection when reading a story.

Week of January 21st, 2014
1. I can produce a rhyming word.
2. I can measure using non-standard units of measurement.
3. I can compare objects from the past and the present.

Week of February 3rd, 2014
1. I can sort letters by different features.
2. I can hear and write the long vowel sounds in a word.
3. I can count by 10s.

Week of March 31st, 2014
1. I can illustrate how the Earth recycles water.
2. I can ask and answer questions about unknown words in a text.
3. I can measure objects using non-standard units.

Week of April 7th, 2014:
1. I can use what I already know to tell the steps of an instructional procedure.
2. I can ask questions while reading an informational book.
3. I can count by 5s. 

Week of May 5th, 2014
1. I can compare a penny and a dime.
2. I can use parts of words to solve new words.
3. I can change the last letter of a word to make a new word.
